The Safety Management functions that is one of seven primary plans involved with the Environment of Care. In safety management, one or more persons must be assigned to coordinate the development, implementation, and monitoring of safety activities in all programs.

This person is full-time position and called a "Safety Officer".

Intervention authority is the responsibility of the Safety Officer and must intervene anytime there is an unsafe situation that has or currently taken place.

The safety officer plays a integral role in the data collection and reporting to the environment of care safety committee involving environmental compliance tours (E.C. 1.2) and safety inspections of all the facilities, hazard recalls and alert notices, and developing safety policies and procedures.

Items of interest

• clearance between sprinkler heads and top of storage have no more than 18 inch clearance
• electrical outlets are in good condition
• exit lights are illuminated
• egress and hallways free of obstruction and clutter
• fire extinguishers and smoke detectors inspections are current
• electrical cords in good condition
• safety training current
• staff knows fire extinguisher and fire alarm locations
• staff know code pink
• hazardous materiel's are properly labeled
• advocate that forbids or supports "no smoking" policy inside or near facilities, especially near oxygen storage zones.
• mishap forms are properly completed
• performs risk and safety assessments
